Portia Lee James DeGeneres is an Australian-American actor and model with the pseudonym Portia de Rossi. Her surname was changed legally at age 15, adopting her preferred name "Portia," named after the Shakespearean character in the play 'The Merchant of Venice.' Portia thinks that this is the most risky of things she's done. She said that her inner struggle over her sexual orientation was the main reason she chose to make the decision. Portia's career began in Hollywood with the romantic drama film "Sirens.' She starred alongside Hugh Grant. The actress also appeared on several American television series and movies including Too Something, Nick Freno, licensed Teacher, Arrested Development, as well as, Better Off Ted.
